Turkey Trot goes virtual for 2020 race
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) - The Skinny Raven Turkey Trot is going virtual this Thanksgiving due to COVID-19. The race attracted 2,000 runners last year and is the local shoe store’s most popular race. This year runners are able to sign up until 11:00 a.m. on the day of the race and have the entire day to complete their run.
“People are going to be doing it on their own course and their own time,” said Skinny Raven Events Mark Iverson. “One of our goals is to get people moving.”
The Turkey Trot is also a fundraiser for the Food Bank, and organizers have a goal of raising $20,000.
“What we are finding is people want to put a bib on even if it’s virtual, have a little sense of normalcy,” Iverson said. “Support us as a small business, and support the food bank through this event.”
The events team will personally deliver A Pie Stop pies to age group winners after their results have been verified.
